USAID Office of the Development Counselor

In December 2008 the U.S. Embassy welcomed the arrival of Denny Robertson as the first United States Agency for International Development (USAID) “Development Counselor” to Bulgaria.  The newly open Office of the Development Counselor will build on the success of USAID’s 16-year engagement with Bulgarians where over $600 million was invested toward creation of a democratic, market based economy and ultimate entry into the European Union.  The Development Counselor is a pilot position to build strategic alliances and partnerships with private and public sector organizations to address a select number of remaining development challenges.

In June 2009, an Annual Program Statement (APS) was issued by the Regional Services Center/Budapest inviting applications from prospective partner organizations to carry out activities which seek to strengthen Bulgarian economic competitiveness through expanding opportunities in Information Technology (IT) and Innovation.
