USAID Sponsors International Conference on Democratic Transitions in Western Balkans

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Mission to Bulgaria and the Center for the Study of Democracy will organize an international conference, "Democracy That Delivers: Unlocking the Potential of Transition," in Sofia on May 21.
Media are invited to attend the opening of the conference, which will take place at 10am at the Sheraton Hotel in Sofia.
The conference will bring together civil society and government representatives from Bulgaria as well as Albania, Bosnia, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, and Serbia. Speakers will be former USAID Administrator Andrew Natsios, former U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Elizabeth Jones, U.S. Ambassador to Bulgaria John Beyrle, Minister of European Affairs Gergana Grancharova, former Norwegian State Secretary for Development Cooperation Leiv Lunde, and Financial Times international editor Quentin Peel.
Panel discussions will focus on the roles of international assistance, EU integration, and civil society in the democratic reform processes in the western Balkans.
