How Do I Apply?

Payment of the Application Processing Fee

All applicants for an United States nonimmigrant visa (that is, a visa for a temporary stay in the United States) must pay a nonrefundable application fee of US $131.00 per person to cover the cost of applying for a visa at one of the offices of Unionbank in the country.

If an applicant pays in Bulgarian currency, the rate of exchange will be set daily, using the published Bulgarian National Bank rate.

If an applicant is not currently in Bulgaria, someone else may pay the fee on applicant’s behalf (complete name and Personal Identification number (EGN) will be required).

The bank teller at the bank will give the applicant a three-part deposit slip validated by the bank's computer system. The yellow part of the receipt is for the Consular Section at the American Embassy. The applicant must take the yellow copy to the Consular Section and present it with the visa application.

The Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy in Sofia will honor a valid receipt for one year after the date of payment. If an applicant has not submitted an application (had an interview appointment) and more than one year has passed since the payment date, the applicant must pay a new fee.

Some Third Country Nationals will need to pay an additional visa issuance fee.
