Local Civil Records Information
Duplicates of Bulgarian civil status records may be obtained only in person or by another person that is empowered for the purpose with a duly authenticated and translated Power of Attorney (for authentication information, please go to Notarial Services). The Embassy may obtain a duplicate of the Bulgarian birth certificate for an American citizen who is in a process of applying for Social Security retirement benefits.
Birth Certificate: An application should be filed with the registrar at the place the birth record was created. Fee: 1.50 leva.
Marriage Certificate: An application should be filed with the registrar at the place the marriage was performed. Fee: 1.50 leva.
Death Certificate: An application should be filed with the registrar at the place of the decedent’s last permanent residence. Fee: 1.50 leva.
Divorce Decree: Copies of divorce decrees are provided by the court where the marriage was dissolved. Fee: 1.50 leva for the certified copy of the first page, 1 lev per page for a certified copy of each consecutive page.
