AES Solar Energy Ready to Invest USD 400 Million in Bulgaria
July 28, 2010
On Wednesday, July 28th AES Solar Energy CEO Robert Hemphill and U.S. Ambassador James Warlick presented to the media an AES Solar Energy project which the American company is ready to launch in Bulgaria once it receives clearance from the Bulgarian government. This project, a solar energy facility to be build in Bulgaria, would be worth USD 400 million and would be the largest such facility in Europe and would have the capacity to provide 800 MW of power. The AES officials answered a number of questions concerning the cost effectiveness of the project, the environmental concerns of the local residents, and the steps which the Bulgarian authorities are expected to take in order to make this project happen. Ambassador Warlick emphasized that this project would represent one form of energy diversification that Bulgaria is looking for which represents an AES investment of USD 400 million that would cost nothing to the Bulgarian government.
