Lovech Celebrates American Independence Day with Cultural Affairs Officer
The Friends of America Society in Lovech celebrated the 233rd anniversary of American Independence on July 1st with a concert, speeches and the opening of an American Center. Cultural Affairs Officer Sherry Keneson-Hall cut the ribbon at the official opening of the “American Center” in Lovech, before delivering a speech on the American Dream to a diverse audience of citizens from the town. The American Center was an initiative of the society’s chairman Gencho Lazarov and will provide a place for people to learn about America as well as practice their English. The society organized a concert celebrating American independence by guitarist and other musicians from the local community center. Lovech has a long history of ties with America, starting in the 1890s when missionaries from Boston, Massachusetts opened the American Girls’ College, which is now the called the Ekzarh Joseph Language High School. On behalf of the American Embassy, Keneson-Hall presented the center with books about American history, monuments, politics and other subjects.
