Innovative Exhibition “Visual Semiotics”
Two-time Bulgarian Fulbright Fellow and artist Boyan Dobrev opened an innovative exhibition of student artwork entitled “Visual Semiotics” at the American Corner in Sofia on June 16th. The students attend the National Academy of Fine Arts and are the first class to complete Dobrev’s course, which was inspired by his time as a Fulbright Fellow. The exhibition, which runs through June 30th, experiments with visual images in a groundbreaking attempt to depict abstract images of concrete objects or ideas such as flesh, flight, and jungle. Each student uses a variety of materials and methods to illustrate the theme. Dobrev wants to prove that visual codes and structures are very important in the overall message and the transfer of ideas through imagery, not just language. The exhibition will be accompanied by two panel discussions on this topic and will be open to the public.
