The Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy in Sofia is open Monday through Friday, except for American and Bulgarian official holidays.

Emergencies involving American Citizens:

Emergencies include: death, serious injury, serious illness, criminal assault, arrest, and emergency need for financial assistance.

For non-emergency inquiries, please send an e-mail to acs_sofia@state.gov or fax at +359 (2) 937-5209.  If your inquiry is of time sensitive nature, we will respond as soon as possible.  For general inquiries you will receive a response within five business days.

For Federal Benefit inquiries you can contact the American Citizen Services unit at tel. +359 (2) 937 5100 from 9:00am to 12:00pm (M-F). You may also send an e-mail to acs_sofia@state.gov.  You will need to provide your full name and claim number when you contact us.

Immigrant Visa Unit (permanent residence in the United States)

This unit provides assistance for immigration on the basis of family relationship, adoptions, fianceé petitions, employment-based petitions and the Diversity Visa Lottery: by appointment only.
