On June 10-11, President George W. Bush visited Bulgaria to pay tribute to Bulgaria’s strategic and economic partnership with the United States. During his twenty hours in Sofia, President Bush laid a wreath on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier; met with Bulgarian soldiers who had served in Iraq and Afghanistan; met with President Georgi Parvanov and with Prime Minister Sergei Stanishev; held a press availability at the Sofia Archeology Museum; attended a luncheon at the National History Museum, and met with a roundtable of students from Sofia University, the American University of Bulgaria, and the American College in Sofia. The roundtable included students from Bulgaria, Albania, Kosovo, Serbia, and Afghanistan.
During his public meetings, President Bush praised Bulgaria’s role fighting for freedom in Afghanistan and Iraq, and promised the assistance of the United States in trying to win the freedom of Bulgarian nurses being held in Libya. He also urged the international community to move forward in granting independence to Kosovo.

President Bush Visit to Europe - Summary
President and Mrs. Bush were in Heiligendamm, Germany to attend the G-8 Summit on June 6-8, 2007.
Prior to the Summit, the President visited Prague, Czech Republic on June 5 for meetings with President Klaus and Prime Minister Topolanek.
Following the G-8, the President traveled to Jurata, Poland on June 8 for a meeting with President Lech Kaczynski. On June 9, he visited the Vatican for his first meeting with Pope Benedict XVI, and Rome, Italy for meetings with President Napolitano and Prime Minister Prodi. The President was in Tirana, Albania on June 10 to meet with President Moisiu and Prime Minister Berisha, before concluding his trip in Sofia, Bulgaria, where he will meet on June 11 with President Parvanov and Prime Minister Stanishev.
