Ambassador Beyrle about the Summer Work and Travel ProgramJanuary, 2008..."The Summer Work and Travel program, has become tremendously popular in Bulgaria. We expect to give visas to about 13,000 Bulgarian students in 2008. The program runs for four months. It gives university students the chance to earn money and experience American culture first-hand, working in a variety of jobs in locations across the U.S, from New York to Alaska . And, as a bonus, it also provides time and opportunity for students to travel throughout the States to see our historic landmarks, famous cities and breath-taking national parks." (
Ambassador Beyrle Explains U.S. Position on KosovoAmbassador Beyrle presented the American stand on the resolution of Kosovo’s status on a Bulgarian National Television weekly talk show airing on November 24. While speaking in Bulgarian, the Ambassador said the U.S. is committed to finding a resolution to the Kosovo status issue and that the Troika is now urging the two parties to take advantage of the opportunities the talks are offering and to demonstrate their political will and responsibility. The Ambassador pointed out that Serbia and Kosovo have a clear chance and incentive to join the European family of nations and to focus on a peaceful and prosperous future. (
On Saturday, November 17, Ambassador Beyrle took part in the popular lifestyle talk show BNT’s Night Birds Piano Bar. The Ambassador shared his views about politics and politicians pointing out that honesty is the most important feature that a politician should have. The Ambassador talked about the Green Card Lottery noting that the desire to start a new life in America has been a traditional component of the country’s natural strength. Commenting on disappointment that the Bulgarians feel about the transition, he quoted an American saying “The grass on the other side always looks greener” and said that now we are on the other side and we see that the grass is not as green as we thought. "Problems always exist, the Ambassador said, the important thing is how we deal with them."
